Heliopolis Jazz Jam with Alejandro Torres

Led by musician Alejandro Torres, this evening is dedicated to live, spontaneous music. The idea is simple: bring your instrument, join the bandstand, and play.

The night begins with a performance from jazz fusion jam band Intrusive Thoughts, followed by a workshop exploring how different levels of structure can shape a jam session. From completely open improvisation, to more defined formats built around agreed-upon forms, songs, or frameworks, participants will explore a range of approaches to collective music-making and consider how each can influence creativity, communication, and musical outcomes.

Following the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to put these ideas into practice in a jam session for the rest of the night. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or simply curious about improvisation, the stage is open.
